we were welcomed by a group of ushers at the main gate and at the entrance. situation seems bit awkward for both parties due to meeting up strangers for first time. Not much words been exchange for that short moment of entrance into the experiment theater. Trying hard to behave and suppressing the urge to monkey out like usual, we took some seats in the experiment theater. It smells old! the smell is so familiar like the old DTC before it has been burnt down and the Experiment Theater behind DTC! yes exact smell!
Without any introduction of any other welcoming speech, we were left isolated in the ET. We were wondering where are those UKM people. After 20mins so so of wait, the UKM team enter the ET. Without much words been swapped, we were requested to poss on the mini stage for a group photo. without any hesitation we heeded the summon and stand there for for group photo. well the itchiness in the ass became so pronounced. some one suggested few shot of formal and there it goes again few shots of SS (itchy ass!....)
after that shot we went on with some ice breaking session. First one; scissor, rock and paper. If you win, you can ask questions regarding your opponent. If you lose, then answer the question la ngok! seems so unique the way of ice breaking. never done this before anyway. Soon after the first session, second session is a big circle (seems like square or duno wat abstract organic shape we had form), a mastermind stands in the center with a broom. OMG! wat in the world we are goin to play wit a broom? whack you fren? broom away your enemy? hahaha. The objective of the game is to shout out someones name (without any repetition) and that someone needs to grab the broom stick from the mastermind before the broom falls down in the count of five. Ok....unique oso, but then i can see a lot of people from UM side look so worry! i knew it, they forgotten their UKM frens name. Hahaha you can only call out the other team member's name. Aih i oso worried la, as i only knew few of them and i can't remember name (short term memory loss kekeke). then those fail in this game was punished to do cat walk and with some expression n gimmick at the center of the circle!
ok, then 3rd game is something like cat and the mouse. Ok i ned to confess that this game really needs alot of brain work. aih tiring and brain taxing in figuring out who is the cat n who is the mouse and wat to do when u r a mouse or cat vice versa
then we continue on to group discussion. not much vocal n serious management issue was been discuss. I felt quite not in place with this idea of discussion when nothing significant was discussed. then the happiest moment is here....LUNCH!
after lunch we had our warming up session in two separate places. UM had the privilege (jz to make it sound we are so lucky) to use the ET and UKM people use their grand piano room.
wah ..... a grand leh! so lucky! we in UM oso never used a grand for warming up and practice unless on the competition day (if you are lucky enough that the grand is been granted by the Sultan of Perak for use)
well we rehearse the first team first, tried out few setting and positions. so settled down with it, then 2nd team is bit unlucky when they have no time to run through their selections. Only one song and UKM people came in for the next session. Next session is learning Music Speak To Me Now. it is quite easy to learn if we are given then scores, but its scarce. so we cramped ourselves consuming the limited copy of scores with our eyes! Then show time! 1st team presented well, except the piano accompaniment is disastrous! 1st team did have lots of basic things to work out.
2nd team performance oso went well, with some basic things to keep in mind, pitching n vocal style need to be more standardized. then came the moment we are waiting for. the presentation from UKM choir! their voice seems to blend well due to almost-same vocal texture produced by all of them. piano accompaniment is bit out but not as disastrous as the 1st team. Last presentation was the combined session where we need to present Music Speak To Me Now.
After that, the bunch of people from UM dedicated some other songs for the UKM and also teach them a Kenyan song Gwendette. And we bid goodbye to everyone n headed to UKM roundabout for some photos, jumping up n down like monkeys! hahahaha at last we can be ourselves again. Then some of us headed to Kajang sate with one of the UKM bass from Penang!
